Biography

Thank you for checking out my artwork! As the daughter of two creative souls, I have been drawing and painting as long as I can remember. After earning a BA in Studio Art from the University of South Carolina, I spent a few years working in advertising as an illustrator before going into education. For over 30 years, I have taught art to students of all ages in gallery and private classes, and in both public and independent schools, while raising my two (now grown) sons with my husband and strongest supporter, Blaise.

Even through the busiest years, whenever I could find the time I was drawing or painting, and I have been blessed to maintain a pretty steady flow of commissions over the years. I am eternally grateful to anyone who has purchased a piece of my artwork and always get a thrill when I see my work hanging on the wall in someone's home or business.

I currently teach Ceramics, 2D Design and Photography to middle and high school students. I love teaching art; building relationships with the students and helping them build on a talent they possess...or even better, seeing them discover a new skill and develop a passion for it. I know I'm fortunate that my job allows me to do and share something I love. Although I still teach full time, I'm now at a point in my life where I have the flexibility to paint what I want in addition to commission work. When you don't have to worry about ruining a work of art that someone has ordered, there's definitely a sense of freedom which gives you the courage to experiment and not be afraid to fail. It's such a great way to learn! There is no limit to my subject matter, but I love doing flowers, animals and architecture...and low country marshes...and cool windows and doors...I've worked in a variety of mediums, with watercolor and acrylic paints leading the way recently.
